Who me? Just watching a little North Korean propaganda before bed.
This video seems to be a study in the different voices of Ri Chun Hui, one of North Korea’s primary news anchors. It’s hella long but two of the broadcasts here announce the deaths of Kim Il-Sung (1994) and Kim Jong-Il (2010) - crazy!
(Btw if you ain’t knowin, FUN FACTZ: Kim Il-Sung continued being President of the Republic for like four years after his death - no joke!)
0:00 - death of Kim Il-Sung, 1994
This is the wildest news broadcast I have ever seen. Dig that fucking soundtrack! After the initial announcement and a brief bio, it cuts to a montage of people crying and like stock footage of lightning storms with canned sound fx. Jeez who writes this crap?
23:30 - death of Kim Jong-Il, 2011
17 years later, same news anchor, same voice, but now the presentation is much more understated. It’s a person reading the news in a room, at least, instead of a voiceover with a montage of mountain ranges and biographical footage. Also now with sign language! Lucky bonus: no nauseating soundtrack either. (Of course, Il-Sung ruled for 46 years while Jong-Il only stuck around for 17 - wuss!)
Quote from the end of the video: “Chinese college Dou Wentao said: Ri’s voice is more powerful than guns” Read that however you want.
ok damn we get it jeez
And here’s the opposite of that - me playing at the Chikushikai biennial get-together / concert / hangout thing in Osaka.
Some photos just came in of my performance with Daisuke Fujiwara at SuperDeluxe in Tokyo. Thanks to Cal Lyall for taking these!
I don’t even know what it means for something to be played any more.
